Use:
Vinca is one of the best ground cover plants for shady areas. The foliage is resilient, stays green most of the year, and has pretty blue flowers. Use it where gras dies under a tree, on a steep bank, in rock gardens, and trailing from rock walls. Interplant it with lilies to keep the soil surface shaded and cool to protect the shallow surface root of lilies. Vinca is often interplanted among daffodils, lungwort, and mertensias. Vinca probably grows too vigorously to be planted with small delicate ornamental or introduced in the perennial border.

Culture:
Vinca has no special requirements and can withstand drought and neglect. Vinca spreads by creeping stems which form roots and will spread fairly fast if well watered and fertilized until established. The foliage is glossier and a richer green when grown in partial shade. The sturdy foliage is not usually bothered by inscets or disease.
