Use:
Showy pink or white flowerheads in summer attract butterflies in droves. Butterfly weed is great in the middle or back of the garden where its upright vase shape works nicely with lower or mound-shaped plants such as coreopsis. It also combines well with taller plants such as boneset, tall meadowrue, asters, and rudbeckia. The flowers are excellent for cutting. Plants in the milkweed family are the soul source of larval food for the monarch butterfly. Swamp milkweed attracts several other butterflies to the nectar source.

Culture:
Swamp milkweed is long lived and doesn't require any particular attention. It is deep rooted and doesn't like being transplanted once established.
