Use:
Purple coneflowers can stand hot, dry weather and still provide a profusion of blooms. They are colorful additions to native-plant gardens and work well in perennial gardens and informal areas. The plant habit is somewhat stiff and rigid, but this can be toned down by planting with baby's-breath and sea lavender. Once the petals drop, the cones remain and become darker and attract birds.

Culture:
The plants tolerate dry, sun-baked locatins, but grow best in good soil. Plants often decline after division. it is best to divide in spring or early autumn. Cut the crown with a sharp spade and divide them into 2 or 3 sections every 4 or 5 years.
