Use: This striking perennial has strong rosy-purple flower spikes which open over time from the top to bottom. The grass-like foliage is attractive all season. liatris will combine nicely with black-eyed daisies and asters, pincushion flowers, cranesbill, daylilies, and lower-growing or mounded plants. It provides an interesting and hard-to find vertical for early fall.
Culture: Liatris do not require a lot of care. If flowering begins during a real dry period, they will require occasional deep watering. Liatris is well behaved and the clumps expand slowly by sending up new shoots above the base. liatris seldom need dividing, but the clumps can be divided in the spring or late summer to expand the planting.
