Use: These plants stay
low and can be used for an edging, foreground of a border, or planter ground
cover. They should probably only be used where the root zone can be restricted
because the underground rhizomes can be invasive and tolerant of man herbicides.
The plant could be contained by planting it in a large pot and burying the pot
in the landscape.
Culture: The more sun
this ground cover gets, the brighter the colors. The vigor is better in partial
shade, but the colors revert to greens and maroons. The plant does best over all
in partial sun in consantly moist, well-drained soil. The foliage will scorch
and the growth will be restricted during summer if it is planted in hot dry
sites. The plant is slow to emerge in spring.
