Use: Baptisia is a great backbone plant for the garden. Its intense blue flowers appear in June above nice gray-green foliage that remains an attractive feature of the garden all summer. Bloom is followed by prominent dark seedpods that complement the foliage. They combine well with pink peonies and cranesbills and contrast nicely with silver artemisia. The flowers are good for cutting and seedpods look great in winter arrangements.
Culture: Baptisia really do not need any attention. They have deep taproots and are drought tolerant and extremely long lived. They never need dividing which is fortunate because they can hardly be pried out of the garden once established.
