Seven Devils Campground (09/09/06)02/28/07

These are the pictures we took of the Seven Devils Campground and the surrounding area. We didn’t wind up staying at the campground because the smoke due to fires in the area. But, we got some pictures. The campground is about 17 miles southwest of Riggins, Idaho from Highway 95.

7D 002. Here is the sign at the road to Seven Devils as we turned off from Highway 95.
7D 003. The road as we start out from Highway 95.

7D 005. Some of the scenery along the way.
7D 006. More of the road and scenery.

7D 013. That isn’t snow. We are just taking pictures through the windshield.
7D 014. We are gaining altitude and the road continues to be a little steep with a number of corners to deal with. Also, notice the smoke in the area.
7D 015. More.
7D 016. Lots of smoke.
7D 017. This gives you an idea of what the day would be like if it were not for the smoke.
7D 019. A sign guiding us on our way.
7D 021. It is getting a little late in the day in addition to the smoke blocking some of the sun.
7D 022. We should have used the flash. I think is says “Seven Devils National Recreation Area.”

7D 035. The inside, using the flash. It looks like the standard pit toilet. I don’t remember seeing any source of water at this campground. So, if you go, you need to bring plenty with you. I suppose the lake would be a source of water for washing, etc. I’d be a little afraid to drink it with out some kind of treatment.
7D 037. Another fire facility.
7D 038. Another.
7D 039. A view of a campsite. There certainly seems to be plenty of firewood around here.

7D 057. This is more of the view as we walked back.
7D 058. More of the campground.
7D 059. More.
7D 060. We were surprised to see so much firewood all chopped up and ready to use. I wonder if the folks who take care of the area do it or if campers just leave some behind.
7D 061. Here is our pickup sitting in one of the camp spots.
7D 062. A shot of some of the signs at the entrance to the campground.

7D 066. This is a sign we saw as we drove to the Heaven’s Gate Vista area.
7D 069. Here is a shot of the look out above the Vista area.
7D 070. Well, here is the sign at the vista area. If you look closely, you can make out that it says “Heaven’s Gate Vista.” I think the bottom part says “Seven Devils Recreation Area.”

7D 086. Another.
7D 087. Another.
7D 088. And another.
7D 090. More of the scenery and smoke.
7D 092. More.

7D 097. Some deer.
7D 098. Here they are as they run across the road.
7D 099. Here are the birds again.
7D 101. Another one of the road signs you would see on the way in. Some of these signs with the arrow pointing up are placed right in between a fork where one road splits into two roads. I wish we had a picture of the one that confused us for awhile.
